So I’m well into my first week as a newly minted digital citizen. Sure, I had myspace and now facebook… I even used to make angelfire pages back in the day, if you’re familiar with those. Now, I’m fully immersing myself into a life emboldened by the internet. That being said, I have an interview scheduled for tomorrow! It’s with a company that provides training classes for new fathers! Basically, a perfect match for my upcoming life. I saw a posting for the job through craigslist (that’s on the internet! See, new digital lifestyle?), e-mailed them last week and they called me this morning. I love interviews because it gives me a chance to talk about me! Haha, but really, I love talking about projects I’ve worked on so it should be fun. I’ll keep all of my loyal readers (Mandy) posted and we’ll see how it goes! I’ll have more blog-worthy posts later this week… until then!
Monthly Archives: March 2009
I love visiting my blog! My name is in huge letters at the top and it makes me feel special. To be honest, I don’t know what to write, but I’m going to try to keep up with this for as long as I can! I’ve been very much aware of this culture for so long now, but always circled around it cautiously–not knowing whether to jump in or not. I frequent sooo many blogs and blog-like sites too that this was only a matter of time. Here are links to the sites I visit on a daily basis. I don’t pay for the newspaper or broadcast television so these are where I’m primarily getting my news from (I’ll include a little blurb with each one 1) to make this post longer and 2)so you get an idea of why I “like” the site):
-Drudge Report
So maybe I embrace that liberal notion of “accept all viewpoints” a little too seriously. I constantly visit this site, yet I hate almost everything about it. I suppose that it is a source for news. I almost said reliable, but no… reliable it is not. I usually visit this site first and anticipate whether or not there will be a siren-laced headline in bright RED CAPS to start out my day, but there hardly ever is. His obviously biased headlines often don’t even convey the same message the original author intended and that frightens me. It frightens me that so many people frequent the site and no doubt automatically fall in line behind what Drudge is trying to manipulate. At the end of the day, though, I tell myself that my side does it too so whatever.
-Ain’t it Cool News
I’ve been visiting this page for well over 10 years now, which creeps me the hell out. I still feel like the internet is a new invention–and I admit that it is–but not 10 years old… more like 3. With this page it started out as an insight into the film industry with news that I couldn’t find elsewhere at the time and neat rumors that fed my imagination. Now it’s just a habit to visit and I know I won’t ever be able to stop. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to these pages once these guys like Harry Knowles and Matt Drudge die. Will someone else take over as editor, but keep the same name because of brand recognition? Will the same thing happen with my blog? It will, because mine will become very popular–you’ll see! I just realized that I have to think of a different name for mine though–one that isn’t just my birth name. How boring. Maybe Diluzio Digest? How horrible, but hopefully I utilize alliteration. Time will tell…
-Fark
This is a site I was directed to by a good friend of mine. I started out reading the main page when that’s all there was, but they soon added sub categories that broke down the links into different genres, so to speak. I now almost exclusively visit the Politics and Showbiz “tabs” from the website. A confession: I’ll never understand the weird camaraderie that comes with the paid subscription to the website AKA TotalFark. I get the special features that it comes with, but through some quick research it seems like it only costs $5 a month or something and yet the members who choose to pay for this treat it as if it costs thousands. I am always lurking throughout the comments, which almost all drive me nuts of course. It seems as though the users have gotten more conservative over the last year and it’s starting to bother me. Although I love to read through the arguments that arise on such a wide range of topics.
-Digg
A voting-based news site where the most popular links stay at the top. It’s always fun to go and see what new articles are being showcased on the front page and, again, lurking around the comments. This site is mostly WAY liberal–which makes for some interesting comment wars. I prefer Fark to Digg, but the latter is more dynamic when it comes to the links being posted so it comes in handy for a fresh dose of news whenever it is needed.
-AppleInsider and 9 to 5 Mac
These are two Apple news/rumor blogs. They both usually contain the same information, but it’s nice to read different viewpoints occasionally. I really only visit these to keep up on a company that my life has almost become dependent on through my work. Through my years with Final Cut Pro, I’ve slowly transformed into a Mac guy. I’m not as bad as most, but I like the products–I won’t lie. It started with an eMac and had progressed through some iPods, iMacs and now an iPhone. So many e’s and i’s! I love the product designs that the company releases and how easy it is to navigate their computers/gadgets. These sites provide with rumors regarding upcoming product refreshes and direct me to useful iPhone applications. They’re a couple of fun reads, if you’re into that sort of thing.
I’m also constantly visiting facebook, Twitter and craigslist, but they don’t really provide me with news so I won’t type up an explanation. “You know the drill!”
This was an incredibly long post and my hands are now tired so I’ll end it here. I will admit that I enjoy typing these out–it helps to get thoughts off my mind. I think that I’ll keep this up for now. I’m shooting a wedding tomorrow, though. I’m not expecting it to go well, but we’ll see. Next update won’t be for a few days, but I’ll get to it, I promise. Hopefully I’ll be able to showcase some sort of video I’ve produced or photo I’ve taken/edited in Photoshop. Once again, time will tell….
Until next time!
I never thought that I would get into “blogging” yet here I am! A few things about me:
-I’m about to be a new father (which, honestly, still doesn’t sound real yet)
-I’m recently and happily married
-I’ve been working as a freelance video editor (specializing in Final Cut Pro), but more recently have seen the need to find a steady job with stable pay and career prospects.
-I love to write/talk about myself, but only do so when invited to. I think that this blog will give me a chance to share things about myself with the world.
-I’ll hopefully update this with photos/videos throughout the coming months to give you (whoever you are) an insight into my life
-I love to use commas and ellipses when writing. I’m sorry if that bothers you…. it kind of bothers me, but I also love it…
-I hope to treat this as more of a stream of consciousness of insight into my world
-I’m a HUGE spelling and grammar fanatic and hope that all of my posts contain proper spelling and grammar. That being said, I know that mistakes slip through the cracks so we’ll see… I just thought I’d get that out here now so I could get it off of my chest
-I’m also a HUGE news junkie and will probably be posting links to various articles I find interesting or informative.
-Along with that, my political leanings are more liberal. The liberal-most of my beliefs is that I feel that everyone can believe whatever they want and I’m not here to change their mind. I hate arguing and I even kind of hate debating. If you like anything I don’t like… great, good for you. Just don’t try to change my mind to agree with you because it probably won’t happen.
I guess that’s all for now. I’ll figure out more of the features of this thing as time goes by and being to utilize them. I’ll leave this post with a feature I want to use often–and that’s posting a photo, enjoy!
From a wedding a week after the big fires in SoCal:
